Asia Oriental opened their first shop in Plymouth back in 2011, followed by a second store located in Farnborough 5 years later. Now, 8 years on, the company has taken over the previous Wilko store in Northampton Town Centre to open their Third store. The shop that is now officially open on Gold Street stocks a wide selection of Chinese, Japanese, Filipino, Thai and Korean products and ingredients. The store was sure to let people know when it opened with a grand event that also included a dragon dance.

The Challenge

As the team at Asia Oriental Supermarket were taking over the previous Wilko Store they were in need of some signage to rebrand the site effectively. The owners wanted a sign that filled the same amount of space as the previous sign that was in place. This sign spanned the whole shopfront and was produced with multiple ACM Panels. Due to the location of the store, being located in a conservation area of the town it was important for Asia Oriental Supermarket to look into the appropriate permissions to alter the existing shopfront signage. Once this was assessed and a decision reached we proceeded with the signage. They were after both window graphics and an exterior sign. The window graphics were to inform customers of the opening hours and what type of products they have on offer and these were to span across all 6 window panels.

The Result

Initially, the window graphics were produced on a red background to match the rest of their branding but once these had been applied to the windows the shop owners decided that they would actually like to change the design and have just the lettering applied directly to the glass with no backing colour. This required us to remove the previous window graphics and replace them with the new lettering before the grand opening. The main exterior sign was installed and has a striking presence on the high street with the bold red and yellow colour choices.
