Interior Branding and Signage Installation for a Martial Arts Academy in Rottingdean

The Challenge

Grand Union Jiu Jitsu required a range of custom signage and graphics to enhance the appearance of their academy and create a professional environment that reflected the identity of the club.

The project included a combination of posters, contour-cut graphics, dimensional lettering, and acrylic signage, all based on artwork supplied by the client. While the original intention had been for the client to install some of the elements themselves, they later decided to have FASTSIGNS Tunbridge Wells complete the installation to ensure a professional finish.

One of the main challenges involved the installation of the 5mm black acrylic lettering. The wall surface where the lettering was to be mounted had a particularly rough texture, making it more difficult to achieve consistent spacing and secure fixing using locator mounts.

The Solution

FASTSIGNS Tunbridge Wells produced and installed a variety of signage elements over two installation visits spaced one week apart, ensuring each component was fitted accurately and to a high standard.

The project included:

• Three A2 posters, printed onto MD5 material without lamination and installed into frames on-site.
• A large contour-cut graphic measuring 2000mm x 1230mm, produced using MD5-A print with a matt laminate finish to provide a durable, high-quality appearance.
• A series of 3mm ACM signs, printed using MD5-A with matt laminate, including:
  • 1300mm x 800mm
  • 650mm x 800mm
  • 187mm x 70mm (x6)
• These signs were mounted using black stand-off fixings, creating a clean and professional finish.
• Router-cut 5mm black acrylic lettering with a gloss finish, measuring approximately 1500mm x 255mm overall. The individual letters were mounted directly to the wall using locators.

Due to the uneven texture of the installation surface, additional care and precision were required during the positioning and fixing process to maintain consistent alignment and achieve the desired appearance.

The project also included router-cut white acrylic signage mounted onto black ACM back panels, creating a striking contrast and adding depth to the branding.

These elements featured a gloss finish and included:

• 600mm x 600mm
• 400mm x 600mm

The white acrylic components were fixed to 3mm black ACM using locators, with the completed signs then mounted directly to the wall using VHB tape.

The Result

The completed installation transformed the academy with a cohesive range of professional branding elements that reflect the quality and identity of Grand Union Jiu Jitsu.

The combination of dimensional lettering, acrylic signage, contour-cut graphics, and framed displays helps create an engaging environment for both existing members and prospective students.

Despite the challenges presented by the textured wall surface and the transition from a client-led installation to a full installation service, FASTSIGNS Tunbridge Wells delivered a high-quality result across all aspects of the project.

This project demonstrates how thoughtfully designed and professionally installed interior signage for martial arts academies and fitness facilities can strengthen brand identity and enhance the overall visitor experience.
