Contemporary Signage Enhances Navigation at the University of Leeds
The Challenge
The University of Leeds, a renowned university and research institution, required a signage overhaul for two major sites: Weetwood Sports Park and the School of Business. At Weetwood, the goal was to modernise ageing exterior signs, to better direct visitors across the facilities. At the School of Business, the client needed over 560 interior signs, for both the Charles Thackrah and Maurice Keyworth buildings. They also needed a cost-effective door sign solution, that staff could easily update themselves, as offices changed hands. All work had to be designed, fabricated and installed within a strict two-month window, to meet critical year-end budget deadlines.
The Solution
FASTSIGNS® developed a dual-track strategy to meet these diverse needs, through high-performance signage. For Weetwood Sports Park, a suite of durable finger posts, post-and-panel signs and prominent entrance markers, now actively streamline navigation. These visuals serve as a constant navigational anchor, providing immediate clarity for athletes, while reinforcing the park’s professional image, through high-visibility branding.
For the School of Business, the team engineered a custom-fabricated door sign system, designed for maximum adaptability. These signs utilise a removable section for paper inserts, which empowers staff to perform instant, on-site updates, without installing new signs. This solution delivered the high-end look the client desired, at a fraction of the price of the available alternatives. Despite the volume of artwork and proofing required for this installation, the team managed a rapid production schedule, to ensure a seamless, large-scale rollout across both campus buildings.
The Result
The two projects ran concurrently and were both successfully completed, resulting in modernising the university’s visual environment, while meeting the demanding deadline. The new directional signs guide visitors with ease and the adaptable door signs offer a sustainable, long-term solution for the School of Business. By balancing custom fabrication, with efficient logistics, the university achieved a premium revitalisation that stayed within budget and was ready for the new term.
